Meet the 2024 Tarr Fellows

We are pleased to announce this year’s Tarr Fellows: Channappa Gaiangappa, India, Gabriel Gomei, India, Huyng Ngoc Duc, Vietnam, Joseph Kora, Papua New Guinea, Junpiter Pakpahan, Indonesia, Murorunkwere Saidath, Rwanda, Tangka Eric Dindze, Cameroon, and Veny Julita & Kengo Ishida, Indonesia

  • Channappa Gaiangappa is a 2006 ARI Graduate.

    Channappa’s project is based in Karnataka, India and focuses on achieving organic food security through rebuilding soil fertility and climate restoration with better utilization of biomass. Through this project, Channappa will provide technical assistance to farmers and work with local schools to encourage sustainable agriculture practices and income-generating activities.

  • Huung Ngoc Duc is a 2015 ARI Graduate.

    Duc’s project is based in Can Tho City Vietnam and aims to provide practical skills training for farmers and university students in organic farming methods.


  • Gabriel Gonmei is a 2018 ARI Graduate.

    Gabriel’s project is based in Nagaland, India and focuses on training rural women to cultivate mushrooms as an income-generating activity.


  • Joseph Kora is a 2012 ARI Graduate.

    Joseph’s project is based in the Western Highlands Province of Papua New Guinea and focuses on providing technical assistance to rural community members, who are amputees, to implement income generating activities through sustainable agriculture practices including vegetable harvesting, poultry broiler training, and piggery training.

  • Junpiter Pakpahan is a 2008 ARI Graduate.

    Junpiter’s project is based in North Sumatra, Indonesia and focuses on providing disability services and advocating for improved services for disabled members of the community.

  • Tangka Eric Dindze is a 2007 ARI Graduate.

    Eric’s project is based in Northwest Cameroon and offers a train-the-trainer model for women group leaders to advocate and reduce gender-based violence.


  • Murorunkwere Saidath is a 2020 ARI Graduate.

    Murorunkwere’s project is based in Rwampala Village, Rwanda and focuses on empowering children with responsibility and livestock management skills through the "one chicken per child" project. This project helps to combat malnutrition and fosters financial independence.


  • Veny Julita ( 2005 ARI Graduate) and Kengo Ishida's (2012 ARI Graduate) project is based in North Sumatra, Indonesia and focuses on creating local level food security and healthy ecological systems in local communities by providing training to rural community members about implementing food forests as a sustainable agriculture strategy that promotes diverse cropping and organic farming while offering revenue-generating activities to increase livelihoods.

2023 Tarr Fellows

Learn more about the successful projects of our 2023 Tarr Fellows: Lidia Naibaho from Indonesia, Mambud Samai from Sierra Leone, Daneth Him from Cambodia, and Patrick Kullie from Liberia

  • Lidia Naibaho is a 2011 ARI Graduate.

    Lidia’s project is based in North Sumatra, Indonesia and focuses on promoting youth engagement in sustainable agriculture. She is working with youth aged 16-25 to increase their knowledge and understanding of sustainable agriculture concepts and opportunities. She has launched a youth campaign and engaged high schoolers and churches in four villages. She is also providing a two-day training session for young people on sustainable agriculture practices. Through this project, Lidia hopes to increase youth knowledge and participation in sustainable agriculture activities. Read her most recent Project Report here.

  • Daneth Him is a 2010 ARI Graduate.

    Daneth’s project is based in Cambodia and is called the Women’s Livelihood Project. For Daneth’s project, she works with a group of women farmers to help organize a Savings group and creates income-generating activities. This is a community-led group that receives specialized training on topics such as teamwork,  financial management, home gardening, and chicken raising. Daneth hopes to increase the number of women participating in the Savings group and to improve their livelihoods through training and income-generating activities.   • Mambud Samai is a 2018 ARI Graduate.

    Mambud’s project is based in Sierra Leone and it focuses on poultry farming and provides poultry management training for farmers who are amputees. The “Farming on Crutches” project creates income-generating opportunities through the increased production of meat and eggs and the production of Bokashi Fertilizer. Over the course of the 12 month initiative, this project will train 60 farmers on sustainable agriculture, establish poultry farming with a 150-bird demonstration farm and amplify impact by learning from and sharing success stories from their program. Mambud’s goal is for Farming on Crutches to become the leading organic fertilizer agent for small farmers in Sierra Leone by the end of 2024. Read his most recent Project Report here.


  • Patrick Kullie is a 2019 ARI Graduate.

    Patrick’s project is based in Liberia and focuses on training rural community members to implement sustainable agricultural practices. Through this project, Patrick aims to build a mini-solar cassava processing plant and provide training in cassava and yam production as well as marketing skills that will lead to household economic sustainability. Activities include classroom and practical training in the fields on agricultural and community development practices. Patricks’ goal is to increase cassava production by 40% over the course of 12 months, leading to increased household income for participating farmers. Read his most recent Project Report here.
